Medical Cost Projections

A medical cost projection (MCP) is a comprehensive forecast of total future medical costs related to an injury. The MCP is designed to provide reserve and settlement evaluation guidance. The forecast includes future medication costs related to the injury. The projection allows the client to identify significant cost drivers likely to impact future settlement considerations. The MCP may be appropriate when settling a claim that does not warrant a Medicare Set-Aside (MSA).

The MCP is based on the appropriate fee schedule for medical service items and medications unless the client requests an alternative methodology.

Referrals should include:

  • the last six (6) months of medical records;
  • any surgical recommendations or operative reports;
  • claims payment history; and
  • pharmacy data.
